Last Thursday, Kaylyn and I left the house around 5:00am for her 4th grade field trip to St. Augustine. All of the kids were asked to be at the school at 5:30, but of course my sweet Kaylyn told her teacher that we would be there early (I think she was just really excited). All of the kids were so happy when they arrived at the school and it was a joy to be going with them.
We left the school around 6:00 and we were on our way to the St. Augustine.
For breakfast, all of the buses stopped at a rest area. The food was provided by one of Kaylyn's classmates, Jacob (his parents, Jolene and Rob, own Atomic Coffee) and it was delicious! Jolene brought bagels, muffins, pastries and fruit for all of the kids and the parents in our class.
After getting our bellies full, we were on our way to our first stop in St. Augustine...the Alligator Farm.
We're here...
My group of kids were the BEST group that I could have asked for! They got along with each other, they were well mannered, they were polite to all of the adults, they let me take their picture and they were funny.

The girls standing in front of the boys...
They were so funny mimicking the statue behind them.
The amount of alligators in this one place was amazing and kind of scary! There were way too many to count (there were this many on both sides of the walkway we were on) and they were all hungry and ready to be fed by the kids.
Kaylyn scoping out the gators.
This was an alligator in an enclosure that you could go underground to see.
The picture definitely doesn't show how big he is, but he was HUGE!
My silly girls...I laugh every time I look at this picture.
Lyndee really got into the picture taking...her facial expression is absolutely hilarious!
Matthew and Lyndee (she is too funny)
After the Alligator Farm, our class headed to the Castillo de San Marcos or as many people know it, the Fort. Our tour guide was Mr. Dennis and he was great with the kids.
I'm not sure why, but Mr. Dennis decided to hold Kaylyn's hand as he lead the class to where they were going. Kaylyn was completely okay with it because she was first in line (if you look closely you can see the smile on her face).
Mr. Dennis doing some Q&A before the tour and telling the kids the rules that needed to be followed while in the Fort.

By now, it was time for lunch and at this point, we were all really, really cold. We headed to the Visitors Center where we had sandwiches provided by Honey Baked Ham along with chips, a cookie and a drink.
After lunch, we took a Trolley Tour of the town. It was freezing, but the kids didn't seem to mind.
This is the only picture that I took because my hands were frozen.

Our final stop was the Old Jail. The kids loved this and really enjoyed being able to run around and go in all of the cells.
Mrs. Ray and Mrs. Hadley locked up...they were so much fun and the kids loved this!
This is the female cell and the girls were able to climb on the top bunk if they wanted to.
The Ball & Chain
Kaylyn trying out the bed to see how uncomfortable it was.
I told Kaylyn to look like she would if she were going to jail and this is what I got.
I love Kaylyn and Lyndee's expressions in this one.
This is what they would put you in and hang from a tree so that everyone could see you if you were arrested. The kids enjoyed being able to climb in it.

So funny...
The Old Jail tour ended our day with the exception of being able to go shopping for a little bit and then getting pizza for dinner. It was a GREAT trip and I am still so excited that I was able to go with Kaylyn.
So fun! Looks like the trip was well organized and the kids look like they had a blast! I'm glad you were able to go with Kaylyn!!
ReplyDeleteBrooke, it was the most organized trip I've been on with kids. Our whole day was planned and it was perfect! The kids had an amazing time and it was so nice to be with Kaylyn.
