Happy 5th Birthday Ashton!!!

It seems like just yesterday I was going to bed so that I could wake up to be induced the following morning with Ashton. I was supposed to be at the hospital at 6:00am on August 30, 2010, but little did we know there was a different plan for her arrival. She came faster than we ever could have imagined and was born at 4:17am, almost two hours before I was supposed to be at the hospital. I remember the relief of having her in my arms that morning and how I instantly fell in love...we ALL did!

Fast forward five years and we just celebrated our precious girls 5th birthday with some of her closest girl friends. We celebrated a day early with a party at Firefly Pottery and she was so excited.

Ashton with her beautiful cake from Mrs. Marilyn.

Not only is it beautiful, but it's probably the best tasting cake in town!

Ashton with her sweet friend Paige.

Ashton with Ella, Kalea and Soraya who were all in her class last year.

The girls were all able to pick out their own piece of pottery and then the colors that they wanted to paint it. Most chose little heart shaped jewelry boxes, but we had a few turtles, a monkey and a horse too.

Ashton knew when we booked the party that she wanted to paint a jewelry box.

Kaylyn was of course a big help with the little girls.

Ashton had to have her YaYa help her too...

Present time!

My great friend Sarah knew that Ashton was getting a gumball machine from us for her birthday present and made this adorable shirt to give to her from Claire.

Five dollars for the 5 year old.

Ashton wanted a fishing pole so PawPaw got her one.

I love each and every one of these sweet girls! They are such great friends to my girl and her day was special because of all of them.

Singing Happy Birthday

Silly girl didn't like the smell when she blew out the candles.

We didn't get pictures of PawPaw and MeeMee during the party because they were busy helping and keeping Delaney happy, but we had to get pics with them before the party was over.

Our Sweet Girl

After we got home, Ashton had to try out her fishing pole. We couldn't actually go fishing at that point, so she "fished" in the pool (be sure to read the funny story about her pole further down in the post).

The next day was Ashton's actual birthday and she was so excited to wake up. You see, a few years back we made the decision that gum wasn't something that Ashton was able to have and that she would be allowed to chew it when she turned 5. It seemed silly at first, but became something that she was really, really looking forward to. She couldn't wait to turn 5 and get her gumball machine. We had her presents in the living room and I heard her as soon as she came out of her room.

Ashton's first picture as a 5 year old!

I just love this grin! She was so excited!!!

Getting gum for the first time...

I can't even tell you how many pieces of gum this sweet thing had before we left for church that morning, but I can tell you how happy she was and that's all that matters.

Oh how I love this little stinker!

Once at church, Ashton's sweet friends sang for her and then the rest of the day was all about her too. We went to the park to play, she and daddy hit tennis balls, we went to Lake Ella for Snowballs and to feed the ducks, we went fishing to try out Ashton's new pole or at least tried to until she went to cast and threw the whole thing in the water (daddy couldn't get it before it sank so we had to go buy a new one to replace it...oops) and we even went to Sweet Frog for dessert after dinner at Osaka.

Enjoying her snowball!

Ashton LOVES Sweet Frog.

On Monday, Ashton was celebrated at school and even got up in front of everyone during devotion time.

I sent in cookies for her special treat to share with friends and Mrs. Lambert took a picture and sent it to me.

We had one final night of celebrating since YaYa was home and Ashton chose to go to her favorite place, Olive Garden.

Delaney was happy her sissy picked OG (as we call it)...she loved her bread stick.

Ashton was so excited for the waiters to sing Happy Birthday...

And it was a great way to end her 5th birthday celebrations!

Sweet girl!

Happy 5th Birthday to our fun, sweet, spunky, loving, sassy, tenderhearted, full of energy, strong willed, precious to our hearts and now bubble gum chewing little girl! You constantly keep us on our toes, but we wouldn't have it any other way. You've filled our lives with laughter and joy and a little bit of craziness since the day you were born and we love you more than you will ever know!!! And I love you a bushel and a peck and a big ol hug around the neck.

Ashton's First Day At Killearn Kids Preschool

You know those times when you think you are right and then you realize just how wrong you are??? Well, that was me last year when I KNEW that Ashton would be starting Kindergarten this year and I was 100% positive that there would be NO other options. I of all people should know that just when I think I have it all figured out, that my plans are not always the best plans.

Fast forward to Monday and my sweet girl started a new school (Killearn Kids Preschool) and couldn't have been more excited! We decided to wait one more year before putting her in Kindergarten and on day 3, I am even more confident than before in the choice that Trey and I made. And don't get me wrong, there were many sleepless nights, lots of going back and forth and tons of praying before making that decision, but I am 100% confident in it!

This sweet thing was so excited that she woke up at 6:30 Monday morning and couldn't wait for us to leave the house. She was so ready for school!

Thank you PawPaw for her super cute dress.

Oh how I love this little stinker!!!

One of the added benefits of giving Ashton another year is that she will now be in the same grade with all of the kids that she has grown up with. Because her birthday beat the cutoff by 2 days (yes, just 2 days) she was going to be a year ahead of everyone.

And this year is special because she gets to be with her BEST bud since birth, Sam! He was the first person she looked for on the first day of school and has been the first person she has looked for each day since then. Today I even got to walk them in to school together and Ashton was so excited.

Ashton and Sam - 1st Day of School

Ashton will surely miss her sweet teachers at Wildwood, but luckily she got two new awesome ones.

Ashton with Mrs. Lambert

Ashton's other very sweet teacher is Mrs. Adams, but I sadly didn't get a picture of them together.

YaYa had cheer practice really early Monday morning so we weren't able to get a picture of the girls together before school, but we got one as soon as she got home.

Sweet Sisters

YaYa was so excited to hear about Ashton's first day and Ashton was just as excited to tell her all about it.

These two melt my heart!

My sweet, little Ashton, I cannot wait to see the growth that this year brings. I know you are going to continue to flourish and build upon all of the things that you learned last year. I love you a bushel and a peck and a big ol hug around the neck...and I ALWAYS will!!!

Kaylyn's First Day Of 7th Grade

It seems like just yesterday Kaylyn was one and I was dropping her off at preschool for the first time and now last Monday my sweet girl started 7th grade. She had a wonderful first year in middle school and we pray that this year will be no different. She's taking Spanish so there's been fun conversations at the dinner table, she's already volunteered at Teen Court to get community service hours for her Civics class and the cheerleading team has already been hard at work practicing for their first football game next week. All of that and school has only been in for 8 days!!!

First Day of School Pictures

August 24, 2015

My sweet girl had me do her hair and even wore my necklace and watch (Premier ladies...she would make you proud!). With two sisters following behind her, I have many years left of them borrowing my stuff. And we wear the same size shoes too!

Beautiful girl.

She had to have a picture with her sisters too...and it was Delaney's 10 month birthday.

Every Mom's Test

You are special; you mean the world to me
You are my daughter, a reflection of my entity

Every year, as I watch you grow by my side
No matter what you do, you are my source of pride

The umbilical cord may have been cut, but you should know
You are still bound to my soul, wherever you go

Sometimes I am firm and you may think I am wrong
Remember it is easy to give in, but tough to be strong

Sometimes I am strict and you may think it is unfair
But I correct you only because I love and care

I harden my heart and nag, scold and fight
To teach you the difference between the wrong and the right

For soon, the days will pass swiftly all in a whirl
And into a woman will grow my baby girl

Tomorrow when you need inner strength above all
I hope my values will give you the courage to stand tall

I hope that in my teaching you will find tips few
Soon when you strive to make your dreams come true

At a later date, when the real world you have to face
Today's lesson will help you go ahead in the race

Some day in the future when a mother you will be
From my point of view, the world you will see

For your baby then you will do what is best
To blend discipline with kindness is every mom's test
